Living in Seattle with media overload

Scroll down to content

The new virus is definitely affecting our city, it’s hard to pick through the news and figure out what is said because it sells headlines and what is true, and when certain people in places of power talk about their hunches it doesn’t help.  Businesses are asking employees to stay home, no public meetings, don’t go to the doctor (and expose yourself to sick people) – when it seems all you need to do is wash your hands like you should be doing anyway.  I would hate to be too cynical about how it’s such a huge over reaction but on the other hand I don’t want to look back and think I was naive about how bad 2019-nCoV could get.

So what am I doing in response to the news?  I booked a back up hotel in case our upcoming cruise gets cancelled!  What could happen?  They cancel our cruise and give us our money back plus a discount on a future cruise and we go when things calm down and the air is clean.  I can live with that.  We have travel insurance, as you do when you get older and wiser, but I don’t think it’s ‘corona proof’ .  If they kept us on the ship for an extended amount time afterwards, it could affect our employment, even after 40 years of working at the same place, which would take the ‘fun’ out of an extended trip.

I guess we will let it play out and see what happens.  Wash your hands people!
