On Wednesday’s the first thing I do in the morning, even as I wait for my coffee to brew, is to go to the Safeway ‘justforu’ page on my computer and go through the online coupons. My meal planning is generally based on what’s for sale and can change based on a deal I find when at the grocery – you never know what you can find in what I call the ‘scratch and dent’ section! I consider the savings I make are actually part of my income, money not spent adds to the hourly wage of my part time job.
I don’t consider this a hoard but I just can’t pay double of what used to be the regular price for a 12 pack of our favorite toilet paper. When this goes on sale for the price it used to be at the ‘normal’ price, I buy a package.
Now this Hot Logic may seem like a strange item in the ‘how do I save money’ discussion but hear me out. I follow a number of couponing ‘experts’ on Facebook who do the leg work for me with links to the products they find on sale. I’ve been following Queen Bee Today since 2016 and The Frugal Free Gal for a few years also. While the temptation of everything they list can be a challenge to pass up, finding great deals on practical items like household goods and free kindle books to download saves money on a regular bases. The Hot Logic I found on Sisterhood of Secret Savers as an introduction to a new item, for the price I paid plus free shipping it was a great deal and we’ve used it in the GMC Motorhome while driving to a destination to have a snack heated and ready to eat when we arrive. I have to say I would never have bought it sight unseen for the regular price but at the discount it was offered, I would purchase another one if we needed it.
One of our favorite purchases we have made based on the word of others is a membership to Harvest Hosts. Harvest Host gives for self-contained campers/motorhomes/rv’s a place to stay overnight at various businesses. They range from farms to breweries and golf courses to wineries. We signed up a few years ago and are locked into a great yearly price. We aren’t using it as much as we want yet, but have stayed at a few wonderful sites that are within daytrip range from home. This site along with free phone applications like Gas Buddy, RVParky and Hipcamp are giving us many opportunities to stretch our budget. We follow a number of Fulltime RV’ers who have gift giving ideas for camping experiences. I will list a few below if you have an RV-er in your life. (Harvest Host link is below)
By shopping year round at end of season clearance sales, in addition to using the couponing experts, our holiday shopping is complete. While we got good deals on everything, I believe our gifts will show we were thoughtful based on the personalities or needs of family and friends. Well, maybe the grandson’s are more ‘oh this is fun, let’s just get it!’ but overall I’m happy not just that it’s DONE but I’m excited to watch them open their gifts this year with not an ounce of feeling overwhelmed.
