While it’s not earth shattering, I have now recorded over 300 miles of ‘extra’ walking this year. After decades of a relatively active job, providing childcare for children ages 3 months to 5 years old, the last few years have been a bit more sedentary. A bit is an understatement and the more I sat the more tired I became.

Over the years I’ve done a few 5k’s – the Hot Chocolate Run and the Color Run were fun and I managed to finish within the time limits they set. I’ve been happy this year to do the Virtual Walks, setting my own time line and as the year is progressing I’m feeling better knowing I’m up and moving, no matter what the pace.

I don’t feel the need to go all ‘Beastmode’ like we did in this 5k a number of years ago. I’m happy with my pace. I appreciate this time of my life, when things have slowed down enough to take the time for a walk. To take the time to talk with a friend and focus on the conversation without being distracted while multi tasking to rush to get things done. Of course there are days when life is overwhelming and it feels like things are piling on but I’m slowly learning that the world won’t stop if I don’t hit my self imposed deadline.
